The library at both campus is open for students to come in for lessons with their class or English teachers. The libraries are open some lunchtimes for primary students while High School students are able to use the library before school, after school and at recess and lunch.
We value and promote reading to students of all ages because of the research showing how beneficial reading is, whatever a student’s age or reading ability, especially reading for pleasure:
- Reading helps to calm the mind and relax the body.
- Reading helps to see situations from another person’s perspective helping develop empathy.
- Reading helps improve concentration skills.
- Reading helps develop vocabulary, grammar and writing skills.
- By reading 20 minutes each day a student is more likely to achieve in the top 90% for their age in academic tests.
We are lucky at FIAS to have new books coming into the library all the time so that students can find something that they will love. Why not ask your child what they are reading? And share with them what you are reading?
