Congratulations to our junior hockey team who participated in the Ross Meadows Hockey competition on Monday 12 June 2023.
The team played the first game against a strong Como Blue side where we started strong but unfortunately came out losing by a couple of goals. The next game we played a Kennedy Baptist team who ran out narrow 2-1 winners with chances at both ends and a number of opportunities for FIAS to draw level. The final group game we played against a JCCA Yellow team, where goals from Logan Dunning, Pfeiffer Marwick and Sophie Taylor saw us run out 3-1 winners which meant we finished third in the group.
Finally, our crossover match with the other group meant we played a CBC team from Fremantle in the fifth place play off. In a tight affair we managed to get a great team breakaway goal from Pfeiffer Marwick which broke the deadlock. Sophie Taylor and Logan Dunning added our second and third goal meaning we won 3-0 and ended up finishing in a respectable fifth position.
The students from Years 7, 8 and 9 conducted themselves in an exceptional manner playing with sportsmanship, courage and determination for the duration of the day. The team, captained by Logan Dunning, made huge strides in their development finishing the day with two wins and two losses.
A few special mentions must go to Aimee Latham (Year 12) for umpiring the day voluntarily. Finally, Logan Humphrey, Mitchell Warrilow and Mason Gibbs who volunteered to go in goal throughout the day without any prior experience and did a magnificent job!
Squad – Logan Dunning, Oriana Campbell, Pfeiffer Marwick, Luke Cullen, Taymaz Khezri, John Rule, Ross Bain, Maddie Warrilow, Mitchell Warrilow, Sophie Taylor, Mason Gibbs, Logan Humphrey, Niamh Robinson and Bronte Campbell.
