Dear Parents and Carers
Fostering Leadership: Opportunities for Every Year Group
At Frederick Irwin, we believe student leadership is key to developing essential life skills like communication, teamwork, and decision-making. Through various roles, students across year levels have the chance to lead and grow into confident, capable individuals.
- Year 7: Students can serve as Student Ambassadors, stepping into leadership roles early. Students rotate every term so we can share around the responsibilities and get more students involved.
- Years 8 to 11: Opportunities include becoming Student Councillors, representing their peers and contributing to school and year group initiatives.
- Year 11: Students take on more responsibility as House Assistants and Peer Support Leaders, mentoring younger students and fostering school spirit.
- Year 12: Leadership peaks with roles as Prefects and House Seniors, where students guide and inspire the school community.
Even as the year wraps up, our leaders are hard at work preparing for 2025. Peer Support Leaders will participate in a training afternoon to equip them for mentoring next year’s Year 7 students, ensuring a positive start to Secondary school. Meanwhile, Prefects will attend a leadership day with members of the Secondary staff’s leadership team, focusing on personal growth and goal-setting for the year ahead.
Encourage Your Child to Lead and Serve: Join a Student Committee!
Does your child have a passion for leadership and serving others? Encourage them to make a difference by joining one of our student committees! We are proud to offer opportunities for students to become ambassadors in areas like Cyber Safety, Sustainability, Cultural Awareness, and Anglicare.
As a committee member, students attend lunchtime meetings and volunteer to assist with exciting activities and initiatives throughout the school year. These roles provide a fantastic opportunity to connect with like-minded peers, make new friends, and give back to the school and wider community—all while building invaluable leadership skills.
Encourage your child to step up, serve, and lead by joining a committee! It’s a rewarding experience they won’t want to miss. Students should keep an eye on the daily notices for further information or come up to the Wellbeing Hub to get more information on how to join.
These initiatives reflect Frederick Irwin’s commitment to nurturing student leaders and fostering a strong, supportive community. We are proud of our students’ dedication and excited to see them shine in the coming year!
Kind regards
